I get why driving mode needs wifi or mobile networks for navigation but why can't it be turned off for calling or sending text? I get to the "Hi Galaxy" screen and because it's not connected to the internet it won't let me make calls or text Just says "no network...."

Because your phone doesn't know how to tell what you're saying.

When you use that software all it's doing is sending what you say to a server... The server decodes and figures out what you're saying.. Then sends it back to the software to work.

This is why data is needed.

That's a bit silly. My old phone had voice recognition off line, and this has onboard voice recognition too so why would it need to connect?
