Why is my battery life draining so fast on my S4 with Kit Kat?

Dramatic Reduction in Battery Life on S4 with Kit Kat

Every since installing the Kit Kat upgrade a couple of months age, my battery life in my Galaxy S4 has dramatically decreased. Usage by the Android OS seems to be the cause. And the phone frequently is hot to the touch. Many forums hint at a wakelock issue, but there seem to be few recent posts dealing with the problem since Kit Kat. . I just bought Better Battery Stats to diagnose the problem, but the app is apparently very restricted by Kit Kat and gives me very little information about partial wakelocks as well as other stats. I'm not aware of any new, power thirsty apps I've loaded lately.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this thing

A few things to try:

1. Boot into Recovery Mode and wipe the system cache partition. This can be useful after each major system update. Reset: Samsung Galaxy S 4 | T-Mobile Support
2. If you have a microSD card inserted, unmount it (Settings>Storage), remove it, and reboot. A corrupt SD card can cause problems.
3. I have seen reports here of Skype causing problems. Try uninstalling or disabling it.
