I decided to change the password on one of the Google accounts I have registered on my phone. I went into Settings>Accounts> and tapped on my account in the list, but all I saw were sync options; no way to change my password. I ended up having to delete and reregister the account.

I could've sworn older versions of Android gave the option to change the password in the account settings.

Why would Google have stripped such a basic function out of KitKat?

I don't recall that ever being an option on the phone like that--I could check my old Razr Maxx running 4.1.2 to see. Changing a password is a fairly major thing to do with your Google account, so I think it makes a little more sense to do it in the web interface. You can do it from your phone by going to any Google site on your browser, tapping your avatar in the upper right, then selecting Security and changing your password there.

I was wondering the same thing as silverfang77. I did change my password on my desktop but now in order to stay synced with my phone I need to provide that new password here. The only thing I can figure out to do is delete the account and then set it up again. This is really annoying as then it takes a long time to resync everything.

I could've sworn we were able to do that in Gingerbread.

Jumping in on an old thread, I had the same problem with galaxy tab 3 with kit kat 4.4.2. The trick to reset your password is drag the black bar at the top of the screen down, you then see the notifications where you can tap and reset the password for your google account.

Do you do this from the accounts page?

Open the Notifications Area and tap the Account Sync problem in the Notifications Area, and this will lead you to changing your password This is without haave to remove the account, restart your tablet/phone etc etc.
