Can apps be installed on a microSD card?

I have a Samsung S4 (2 GB RAM and 16 GB "internal" storage"). I notice that right out of the box, my S4 is down to about 8 GB of internal storage. I'll see to that bloat.

My question is, can apps only be installed in that 16 GB "internal" memory device? If I add in a 64 GB Micro SD card, will I now effectively have 80 GB of "internal" storage where I might install apps to my heart's content, if I so choose? Or, can apps only be installed in that original 16 GB memory space, and the SD card can only be used for data storage?

Thanks.

The above is correct. The bulk of what Samsung's version of Android is the smart features and such. All that stuff takes up storage, and that is the biggest reason behind the 8 GB for the OS.
