S4 how to factory reset rooted phone from overseas

Ok heres my dilemma...

I have an S4 on the T-mobile network from the US. It was sent to me in New Zealand, where I am currently using it with a local SIM. When i received it it was already rooted (Which I don't know much about the purpose of rooting).

Now I'm having some issues with software freezing on the phone and have been recommended that i need to do 'Factory Reset", which is fine except i dont know if doing so will change my ability to use the phone with my local SIM from New Zealand because of the whole rooting thingy?!?!?

Can anyone please advise what the best course of action or actions to avoid would be...

Thanks in advance

Rooting is not the same as unlocking, so, in theory, factory resetting your device should not remove the unlock if it was done properly. Can't speak for other forms of hackery.

You can try clearing cache from your device before factory resetting (you do it from the same Recovery Menu before booting up) if you're weary.
