Galaxy S4 back and menu button, how can I fix them?

Galaxy S4 back and menu button

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but this morning I downloaded the latest software update on my Galaxy S4 phone, and since then neither the back button or the menu button works at all. The rest of the phone works fine, it is just EXTREMELY annoying not being able to use the back button.

Has anybody else encountered the same issue and managed to resolve it? I have tried restarting phone, pulling the battery and I have just completed a full factory reset but absolutely none of this has helped.

Welcome to Android Central! I do recall seeing that a few days ago. Try wiping the cache partition: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744. If that doesn't help, try reinstalling the firmware using Samsung Kies or Smart Switch.

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried to follow the steps through on Samsung Kies but it simply will not accept any combination of the S/N (presumably serial number). Do you have any idea why this may be the case?

I'm not directly familiar with Kies, since I don't have a Samsung device. Where are you finding your serial number? The Settings>About Phone menu, or the box that the phone came in? The two serial numbers are often different--I'm not sure why, and what the two different numbers mean.
