Picture in "photo" app not showing up in "gallery"

I purchased a new phone, the S4, and went on vacation. When I returned I was told by my local Verizon store that I should save all my pictures to "photo" and not the "gallery". Now, there are pictures in "photo" that do not show up in the gallery. I noticed that when I want to upload a photo on Facebook from the Facebook app, it searches "gallery" so the photos I want to upload aren't there/available. I was also told that saving to "photo" was the safest way to save all my pictures but it seems to me that if you save them to "gallery" that would preserve them on the SD card. My phone is set to save all photos to the cloud anyway so wouldn't saving to the "gallery" be best? AND if so, how do I move the pictures from "photo" to "gallery" and change the setting so it will always save to "gallery"?

Thanks,

Welcome to Android Central! When you say "photo," are you talking about the Google Photos app?

Here's how Android gallery apps work. When you take a photo with the camera, the photo gets saved to the /DCIM/Camera directory (either on internal storage, or the microSD card, depending on how you set the default storage location in the Camera's settings). The system periodically scans all directories for new images to add to the image database used by the Gallery app and the Google Photos app. So any new photos in the /DCIM/Camera directory should become visible in both the Gallery and the Google Photos app. (You're not physically saving the videos to the app itself.)

If there is a file called ".nomedia" in a directory, that will prevent the system from including any images in that directory (or any subdirectory) in the gallery database.

The Google Photos app will show you photos that are stored locally as well as those that are in your Google Photos cloud. The Gallery app will typically only show your locally stored photos, although some stock Gallery apps can also show cloud photos as well. On Samsung devices, photos in your Google Photos cloud may show up in your stock Gallery app with a Picasa logo (which looks like a rainbow-colored camera shutter).

The photos that are showing up in your Google Photos app that aren't in your stock Gallery app are most likely in your Google Photos cloud only. You can download it locally to your phone, then upload it to Facebook.
