    I'm wanting to get some feedback if I should root by s5 active..does anyone think it may be a good idea? I've downloaded z4root but haven't rooted yet- still a little skeptical

    Welcome to the forums. Rooting is like the cliche of 'With great power comes great responsibility'. Once rooted, you probably won't get any updates. They will most likely fail. But some of the advantages are offset by the fact of what custom recoveries and other root only apps can do for you.

    In the Gingerbread days, rooting was more commonplace, and needed if you wanted to do many things. Now....a lot of what used to need root access is embedded in the OS.

    Rooting can possibly brick your device. The chances are minimal, but still possible.

    I am starting to have the opinion that rooting is losing some of it's appeal. But that is just me.
