Quite frustrated with the ATT update from Oct 2015. Tried it 7 times after freeing up to 4.8-5gb yet no luck. "Update failed" message at recover booting.
Asked the high school techies at ATT and they said it is a Samsung issue and they are working on it. Read blogs, some mention to free up 6-7gb for the install which basically means factory reset with no apps as one cannot possibly that much space after using it for 2 years.
Anyone have an alternate way of getting this done. I am on stock 5.0. Samsung Kies unavailable at this time as well.

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!

Samsung have nothing to do with the AT&T, "cloneware", releases! See #1.6 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide

You need 6-7GB free as AT&T appear to be increasing the system partition size, yet again, to accommodate even more of their carrier bloatware in a future release. After the update, AT&T users will have 1.5GB less user storage on their phone than those on the stock Samsung firmware, worldwide.

As you have posted in the Rooting, ROMs and Hacks section of the forum, if your phone is rooted, it will not receive the AT&T update.
