Hi There,
I rooted my phone about a year ago. But somehow now it shows as not being rooted but with a custom rom. Tried using towelroot and that doesn't work. I'd like to upgrade to 5.0 but am stuck at 4.4.4
At this point I'm not sure what is easier to re-root or downgrade unroot and use samsung update?
cant disable knox it keeps popping up.
can't download an update
stuck
I know just enough to be dangerous and eff up my phone. Please help a noob out

Hello and welcome to Android Central marcatmor!

It appears from your post that you are on stock Verizon KitKat, Android 4.4.4, firmware for your model, G900V.

If you upgrade to Android 5.0, you will never be able to root again... ever! See, Verizon's new OE1 & OG5 updates prevent downgrading or rooting and #1.6 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide

If you need to re-root, for whatever reason, you will need to downgrade to Android 4.4.2 before you can use TowelRoot.

Towel root roots 4.4.2 with a kernel date of 6/2/14 or earlier. If you somehow updated to 4.4.4 you lost root, but there are still files in there that will prevent updating.

Either flash stock 4.4.2 and root or flash stock 5 and don't root until someone comes out with a rooted 5 for the V.
