How to upgrade Galaxy S5 sm-g900m still running 4.4.2 to latest version?

I have the same problem as this question:

however, my S5 is model number sm-g900m instead of sm-g900t. I looked on sammobile and the only rom upgrades are Latin American. I am in Oregon now. I'm wondering if I can instead flash an at&t rom to the phone since I am currently using it on the at&t network? Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! I moved this to the S5 ROMs forum for more specific traffic.

It's generally not advisable to flash a different variant's firmware to a phone -- that can introduce glitches, some of them major. If your exact model number doesn't have any official updates, then you could check the forums at XDA-Developers.com to see if anyone has developed a custom ROM for your specific variant.

As you have discovered, the Galaxy S5 model, G900M, is the regional model for South America and is GSM only. see #1.4 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide. The latest and last firmware for this model is, as with most Galaxy S5 models, Android 6.0.1.

All carrier models for the U.S.A. are different to the rest of the world as they have to accommodate the old CDMA networks that are still in use in the USA. You therefore cannot flash U.S. carrier firmware to your G900M. As it stands, your phone should be fully or partially compatible with at least some of the U.S. networks. See, Will My Phone Work?
