As everyone's concerns the same, so is mine. Hoping it doesn't break off anytime soon.

The other concern I have is that the cover is loose on my phone. It wont shut properly. I have to apply way more pressure than what I assume is needed in order to get it shut. Once shut, it trickles open a tiny bit (not completely).

Is anyone else having the same problem?
I've been following this post and wondered why no one else has mentioned that it just doesn't stay shut. Mine is 2 months old and has never fit tightly...I have to keep tucking it in as best I can so it doesn't break off...I am probably going to just remove and keep the cover and strap safe until I get rid of the phone...so much for the water resistance.

Why not just spend the 3 dollars and buy one from Ebay? It's only held in by two screws.

Yeah I'm still waiting on an answer for this. Mine never completely shuts and it does hold fairly well but it always "feels loose" if you know what I mean. I don't know if it's a defect on the door itself or if it's the attachment on the phone but it irritates me lol.

My usb port cover also fell off due to bad glue.

I contacted samsung via live chat and their customer support is still as useless as it was last time I contacted them. They claimed it was due to user abuse. Samsung wouldnt sent me a replacement part as if the repair isn't performed at an authorized dealer it would void the warranty on the entire phone.

In short, im just going to order it off ebay, replace it myself, and they'll never know. I dont have time to go to stores. Im getting sick of Samsung's lack of customer care.

I've had mine about 2 months and the cover is loose. It doesn't click back in all the way anymore either. I've been very careful with it and always made sure it was pushed back in all the way since the phone reminds me everytime it gets unplugged.

I have had mine since launch and it finally came off. Its not a huge deal since its easy to replace. I do agree though that Samsung should be fixing these for free.

My cover is also loose when closed. This is on the left side, opposite the hinge. Not even four months old for me. I figure a couple more months and it probably won't stay closed at all. 😝

This is why, I don't see the point of having a replacement. Just remove them completely, and admit it will not be water resistant which is unnecessary for me to begin with.

No other phones, tablets or eReaders are water proof so why worry about the s5.

I've seen other posts where someone purposely lowered the s5 under water and it was damaged. Remember, its water RESISTANT, not water PROOF.

Mine finally broke...and I was very careful with it from the beginning. It never felt secure, from day one. It's a design flaw...it's that simple. I just sent my s5 to Samsung repair, and they're covering the cost to repair it, as it should be. Plus, the repair turnover time is ridiculous. If I'd had to pay, I would have really been upset.

I take very good care of my phones - I'm never rough or careless. Mine held up for a long time.

I know, right? I've never understood the logic behind purposely dropping your cell phone in water...I don't care if the s5 is supposed to be water resistant. That doesn't mean I'm supposed to drop it in a sink full of water. The water resistant feature is there for accidents - it's nice to know that if I drop my phone in a puddle of water, there's a good chance it will recover with no damage. That's how I look at it.

I can't imagine why someone would send their phone out to have this 3 dollar part repaired. Go on ebay, buy one and replace it yourself. It's held on by one friggin screw.

The little hook has broken off mine.

Only just noticed it. Not sure how long it'll stay like it.

Seems to sit pretty tight though

What breaks is the plastic hinge that attaches the cover to the phone. In my case, the cover will not stay attached to the phone without this hinge.

I have had my phone for ~3 months. Very pleased with the device except the hinge just broke; no unusual or rough treatment. Yes, Samsung will fix under warranty. Send your phone in for 6 days to let them fix it. If you escalate to a supervisor and advanced technical support they will offer to use overnite shipping, getting the turnaround to 3 or 4 days. No loaners. This doesn't work for me and I assume doesn't work for most people.

This part was exceptionally poorly designed and it will inevitably break on most phones. It is an easy fix. It seems certain that Samsung will eventually mail a replacement part for self-fix but right now their policy is no parts are shipped and no third party repairs.

AT&T told me that Samsung had told them that they had a problem with this part and that when it broke, they would ship the part and a screwdriver for self- fixing. Not the case, at least for now.

The more that is written about this, the quicker Samsung will change and do the right thing.

NO ONE IS CRAZY talking about the Samsung Galaxy 5. The Charger Cover Strip DOES BREAK OFF EASY. I take immaculate care of all the phones I have ever had and that piece just popped right off like it was being held by a piece of string. I was beyond upset. I love love love my Galaxy. WORSE feature ever. If they want it water proof and they want all the wonderful things they added to this new phone, you would think the "team" behind designing this phone would have put a bit more thought into that piece that is touched and used every single day...sometimes more than once a day. I had my brand new phone for about a month, went to plug it in one night and pulled it back the strip and it just came off like it was nothing. Since the phone is under warantee and the people from the Verizon store I bought the device I got it from said to take it to any Best Buy and go the the Samsung specialist and they should be able to help and direct you (if not fix it on the spot). I haven't done this, so I do not know if they can fix it "on the spot", but I am really upset that a brand new device has such a cheesy feature. I am guessing I am going to end up with a refurbeshed phone...which after only having my phone for a couple of months makes my blood boil. The piece that breaks off is cheaply held on by the smallest piece of rubber. That is cheap and not acceptable for such a "high end" device. I would recomend this phone to anyone for all its features...I personally think it dominates the simpleton iphone (which I think is made for dummies...sorry..its my opinion) but please don't feel like you are alone in this, the piece falls off like a scoop of ice cream on a cone in 100 degree weather. I wish all of you good luck. If anyone has any suggestions or anyone has gone through this and has had success in any way...please for the sake of the rest of us - post it!!!! Thanks all - PEACE!

I've heard mixed stories on what will be done. I've heard the carrier will send out a replacement but I've also heard the carrier say that Samsung considers this physical damage.

I'm tempted to remove my cover but I'm being OCD about the recessed charging port looking so strange lol.

I hope nothing else goes wrong. I still have the broken cover if they would like it back. Lol

my gs3 had an open port so I'm used to a phone with no charger cover . I actually prefer it that way that's why I never bothered to replace this one when it came off.

Functionally I agree. I don't like pulling the tab daily. I just like the look of it when closed.
