So I noticed after a week of havin my phone that there was the little plastic film over my lense due to it havin a little air bubble. Sigh. So upon my removing it I noticed a slight flaw in the lense itself...like a scuff. And 2 identical tiny tiny dents in the silver part around the camera in the same exact place at the corners. Well I was kinda like wtf. But wasnt truly affecting my camera pics. ..and was lounging around all weekend doing nothing but setting my phone down here and there out of reach of children. Im a freak when it comes to smudges amd cleanliness of lenses and my screen. So the next day after grabbin my phone off the headboard and doin my ocd cleaning of both I was disheartened and shocked to see cracking in the lens. I immediately checked where my phone had set it was a flat surface with absolutely nothing on it. Im now lead to believe that from the pressure of a release date and the push to get these units out that quality control slightly fell by the wayside. I think that the flaws and the little things ive mentioned compromised any integrity that delicate glass lens had making it crack so much easier. Ive never cracked a camera lens on a phone ever. Not my s3. Not my s4. Cased or not cased. And my past phones have takin a couple scary falls I thought for sure would end in an insurance claim. But nope! Held up and super happy. But now. A couple weeks in and handling this phone in the always delicate manner with no drops resulting in a cracked lens? Im a bit upset and saddened by this. Im about to call samsung fearing that its not an issue yet. Its so new. But we will see and keep you posted as to the result of my call. Peace.

I too waited for the release of the S5. Received my phone the day it launched and within 4 days had a spider webbed camera lens. I have contacted Samsung, they are going to "evaluate the phone" to see if there is "handset damage". I know in my head they will say this is my fault, (although the phone had a case, has never been in the hands of a child and has never been dropped). IF they do find a defect they will fix it for free. If not, my dime. I will keep you posted. Praying no one else experiences this, but not holding my breathe.

I have mine in an Otterbox Defender. I think the opening on the case for the camera is angled to steeply and directs sharp objects right at the lens cover. I put mine in the case within an hour of getting the phone.

Look below..

the person who cracked their camera lens on the m8 also had it in an otterbox...perhaps the case design is faulty and puts transfers the pressure to the camera lens?

It could be worse - I woke up this morning and discovered this...

It has been in an OtterBox since day one and never dropped or hit. :'(

I also got S5 on Friday about 5:30 and my lens was broke by saturday at 11 am. I did not drop it and it never left my otter box. Went to verizon and they told me my only option was to claim it on the insurance, I don't think so...too expensive to have this happen without any explanation. I am calling samsung to see what they can do for me. The only thing I can think of is that when the phone was in my purse and I put my keys in it, maybe my keys hit the camera lens. Still this shouldn't happen so easily. I had my HTC thunderbolt for 2 1/2 years and kept it in my purse without incident. Has anyone tried calling samsung to report their issues?

I too had the same issue. I ordered our S5's and in less than a week my fianc?e camera lens was shattered.in an Otterbox defender and she didn't drop hers either..Have you heard of anyone else having similar issues?

I just woke up today to a broken camera lens as well....
Same from samsung, that they can evaluate it to see if its a defect, but cracked glass is always customer abuse.

I am not using an otterbox, but a uag case on mine.

This is bull

I have a tablet 3, and it looks like it might be the same glass on it.

just like a windshield, expansion and contraction.

But I am no specialist here. I am hoping to meet up with a friend who works for corning to take a look at it.

I would have no problem manning up if i broke it, but this was not at all me

So I see more issues raising with cracked lenses. And somone posting about how does glass cack on its own...I understand that it just doesnt. But theres somethin goin on here. I should be able to set down my phone day in and day out without a lens cracking. Maybe its the way the glass is set. Maybe its the silver frame atound the glass.Maybe it is the rush they had to get this camera in the phone right b4 it came out. I dont know but like I said in my earlier post with never having broke a camera lens in my life on a phone and my last 2 phones being the s3 and s4, which have been through far more intense lives of my 3 week old s5. Which my s5 has literally lived a life of pick it up set it down so far. And now it just sits in the box so nothing else that may make matters worse happens to it before I send it to samsung for them to either make a judgment call or hopefully see that it is becoming quite a common issue and just replace it. And now after more research it is seeming cases are potentially making matters worse. . Who knows. All I know is again, for the first time, im a bit disappointed in my samsung phone. Previously owned an infuse, s3, s4. All of them seeing bumps bangs and occasional drop with not a chip or crack. Jusssst sayin. Seems odd.

This is quite concerning for sure. I haven't dropped my phone.....yet.....but I know I will. Just cringe at the thought of the lens breaking....obviously there's no software update to fix this (weak lol) sigh.

I am hoping i can have an answer as well, but not from samsung. No matter what they will blame a crack on the owner. Normal procedure.

I am hoping I can get some info from corning, but I do not know if they also made the lens glass.

Ugh, a 200 dollar phone is going to end up costing double because of this.

Nope, for a camera glass it is, which is (not nice word).

The part is all of maybe a dollar, if that.

I am reaching out to a few people now to get just the glass.

Its impossible to find, not even brightstar has them.
