I'm going to jump the gun and get a s5 tommorow and I wonder what tips are good to get you started with it

Install SwiftKey, Nova Launcher and Juice Defender. Uninstall or disable all crapware (there's a lot of it...pretty much anything from Vz and/or Samsung can safely be viewed as crapware),

At this point you're definitely well along the right path.

At this point you're definitely well along the right path.

I think first he needs to get acquainted with the S5 before he starts to mess with a lot of apps.

And, that is how I percieved his request.

I left out a very important thing to do.

Register the S5 immediately with Google Device Manager so that IF the phone gets locked up and he can't get the lockscreen open, he can regain control of it from the internet.

Aren't we the lucky ones?

Don't you just love all the Bloatware that VZW has shoved down our throats over the years.

But at least, with the S5, you can go to

Settings/Applications Manager/Applications/ALL

scroll down and turn OFF the obvious bloatware.
