Strange battery drain, overheating with no wakelocks

Hi! sorry about my English.

I'm having a strange problem with my exynos galaxy s5. It sometimes gets really hot and the battery drains really fast, even with low usage (emails and whatapp). It's definitely a software problem, because it disappears on reboot. But after a while it returns.

After a reboot i can get sometimes 4.5h to 5h or more of screen on time with no overheating, full day, but than something triggers and i have 2.5 screen or 3h max on with a hot device on wifi, and terrible standby time.

I can't pinpoint the problem. It's not a wakelock problem. I Checked wakelock detector (PC version, since my device is unrooted), and it shows only 8% wake on a full day (yesterday).
The battery on setting shows normal usage: the screen is always on top, followed by android os.

I really don't know what to do, besides keeping rebooting the device every day. No luck turning locations services off.

First, I would install Kies 3.0 if you have not already.
You must use the USB 3.0 cable that came with the phone or equivalent.

Make a full backup image of Everything on the phone.

* Kies | SUPPORT | SAMSUNG

Make a couple of back up copies, insurance is a good thing to own.
With Kies you can restore anything you want, a single piece at a time if you choose to.

Now, I would turn OFF all of the apps that are not needed to make the phone function as a phone. Just keep the com.android..... stuff
goto Settings/apps/app mgr/ALL
In that section you will see everything that is on the phone, even the stuff that is hidden otherwise.

If the phone behaves properly, then one of those apps is a rogue app gone haywire. It might need to be replaced with a new download.

I originally had huge battery drain problems and that is how I got rid of mine.
I traced it down to the Amazon Suites set of apps. I deleted/uninstalled/Turned OFF every thing that had Amazon in the name.

I also turned off all of the bloatware that came with the phone.
S Health is a horrible waster of battery power. Turn it OFF.

Try this and report back... there will always be someone here to help you.

my bad. it sounds like you have a rogue app. as much of a PIA as it is i would do a hard reset and then reinstall all apps one by one until you found the culprit. what apps do you have installed? you can use this App to quickly and easily create a list -

When not using your s5, use two fingers to swipe down and tap Ultra Power Savings Mode. It shuts down all apps but 6 and PERMANENTLY stops rogue apps. They won't start up when UPSM is disabled.

Every so often apps go rogue after being updated. Running UPSM when you notice it, ends the problem.

Out of the list you have, the above are the only ones I am using.

You have a terrific amount of stuff on your phone, and a lot of it can interact badly as they are control managers.

Be careful loading them back on the phone.

Keep a log and track what you do with a date/time stamp.
Use the phone and see how it does.

Do not upload all that stuff at once, you will be right back where you are now.

thanks everyone! I going to factory reset it mainly because it's a new phone so I'm not going to lose much, and I'm tired trying to solve this problem over the past week... Than I'm installing some apps one by one to see if i can find it.

I will return with the results.

Again, thanks for the help and the tips!
