Is ultra power saving mode as good as advertised?

I'm thinking of going from my S4 to the S5. One of the things that really interests me is the ultra power saving mode. I can't tell you how many times that would have been nice to have. Is it really all it's cracked up to be....does it really extend the battery a significant amount when you have little charge?

If you have, as I have "never done" joke there..... found yourself at the end of a long day and noticing the battery is honking at you........ and I say something really neat like "OMG, forgot to charge it last night".....

Then you go to Power Savings Mode and it is good for another day or three even.

All you do is sacrifice all of the neat crap that makes it a smart phone.

It drops back to 1x plain vanilla and it can coast along like that for days and days and more days...

I do something like that everyday but a bit differently.

I use Battery Doctor's switcher to turn OFF,

DATA, WIFI, SYNC, BLUETOOTH, ROTATION, GPS....

Without even having to mess with Power Savings Mode, it does the same thing.
The phone lasted more than 5 days with light use.

that is, I made my normal telco calls, and I sent the usual amount of text messages.

But, nothing else. No internet stuff, period....

The S5 is very flexible.... make it do what you want, when you want.

Today, I got roped into a really dumb class that I had no interest in at all. I kept the S5 turned on all day long surfing the net, reading up on world news. looking at YouTube stuff, etc.....

and the battery is still at 65%....

How much screen time? I barely get 3 hours with 3G.

I think you have too many background apps running that want to have "ET call home to momma".

ie, Facebook, Twitter, social apps are horrible for running down batteries.
Forum apps that keep wanting to let you know that someone just posted something....
Also, anything with the name Amazon in it is the worst power waster I have seen.

I do NOT have any of the above on my phone.

I do NOT allow background traffic on my phone.

I have a screen shot of a very busy day today. I sat through about 4 hours of a study class that bored me to tears, and my S5 was using up a lot of DATA at 4G speeds watching YouTube, News on CNN, Fox, USA Today, Forums, email, texting....

Here is a screen shot of today's use on my phone with the above mentioned use.

I found another shot of a day last month when I talked on the phone for about 5 hours with a trucker friend. He needs to keep his eyes open when making those long long runs at night.
