do retailers like Amazon or Best Buy ever discount the Verizon
Galaxy S5's full retail $599 price? (even if it's a lousy $10 off
or as much as 10-percent off)

my in-laws have a bunch of Amazon gift cards totally almost $1050.
They have been holding on to them since last Christmas. they want
to use it towards buyin the Verizon Galaxy S5 from Amazon.com
(directly from Amazon.com, not third party seller). It's been at $599
for like, well, forever. :) I've been telling them that, but they think it
will go on sale sometime. :)

The only "discount" that they can get is have it shipped to my house
because Amazon doesn't charge sales tax. They can drive the 10
miles across state line and pick it up from me. :) The sales tax is
about $55.49, according to Amazon.

It took me only 3 years to convince them to jump ship from iPhones
to Android phones. Wonder how long it will take for them to pull the
trigger and use their excess Amazon gift cards and order the S5. :)

Full retail for phones don't go on sale for phones like the Samsung GS5. Motorola has done it with the Moto X, but I don't know of any others that have. The sales for those phones, if any, are when signing up for a contract.

New phones aren't discounted. They can probably get the S4 for a lot less than it originally sold for. When the Note 4 comes out, the price of the S5 may drop a bit. When the S6 comes out, the price of the S5 will drop. I assume that they're either off-contract or don't want to extend their contract, or they could get the phones at the contract price from Amazon.

All the bove are good phones, it's just a matter of what they want (a large screen for one thing, I guess). (I use a Note 3, and if I can't design my own phone, it's the one that I'm most pleased with, all around. I just don't like how locked down Samsung phones for AT&T and Verizon are.)
