Galaxy S5 update - is it safe?

I just switched from a Moto Razr M to a Galaxy S5 (Verizon). Not long after I got the phone, it started notifying me about an update. The last update on my Razr M killed FoxFi, so I've been postponing the S5 update until I can confirm that it leaves nothing broken.

I'm assuming most people let this update run. Can anyone confirm whether or not FoxFi still works?

The update is not necessary, and if I had waited until I saw the complaints, I would not have allowed it to be updated.

I forget exactly all of the things it "fixed" but one of them was the option to "unroot" and return back to oem condition in case you wanted to ask for warranty replacement.

It did a couple of other things that irked me at the time but I did not write it all down when I noticed them.

However, I do recall that it over writes some of your preferences and you have to go thru the phone again almost like it was new "fixing the preferences". Now that pissed me off a bunch.

I have never rooted a phone and most likely won't, so the end effect did not make the update a game stopper.

If you search hard enough, you should be able to find the thread talking about this. I would restrict the search to only this particular sub-forum.

I like Google's Advanced Search for doing deep searches. It works far better than any forum's internal search engines.

1) make sure you get the link from this sub-forum, not from this thread.

2) enter that link as the web-domain to restrict the search to

3) enter the following: S5 update Verizon

That will pull up quite a few threads talking about when the update might occur, etc... but at least it will find the thread where we all discussed the negative issues of the update.

Google Advanced Search +> Google Advanced Search

Here is one such thread that I actually bookmarked.
* Updates are Dangerous, why I don't let them download

Here is one that talks about never accepting a Verizon update because of the negative effects. (alas, I forgot to wait and it is done now)

And this update thread is what convinced me to allow the update to install, I use Verizon's Cloud to maintain my Contacts List (a life saver over the years).

this update went sour, killed his SD card or so he claims.

This thread mentions how the OTA from Verizon fixed the Fake ID problem.

Your post jogged my interest and I noted a severe lack of bookmarks on the issue, I have now fixed my Bookmarks and hopefully helped you a bit.

Wow! You're my new best friend!

I've done custom ROMs on phones in the past, and I was considering Cyanogenmod on this one at some point, so I'm interested in anything that breaks root.
