re: Samsung Galaxy S5 showing camera failed error message. How do I fix?

Welcome to Android Central! Does this persist after a reboot? How about booting into Safe Mode, which disables all 3rd party apps temporarily? If the problem goes away in Safe Mode, then something you installed is causing the instability.

Otherwise, try booting into Recovery Mode and wiping the cache partition, which won't erase any personal data. Steps for cache partition wipe and safe mode are here: Reset: Samsung Galaxy S 5 | T-Mobile Support

This was an issue when the S5 first released. The best fix is to tell your carrier and exchange it for a new one.

Use the service menu and the test for the camera.

To open the service menu at your Galaxy S5 type *#0*# at your dialing pad. A white screen with differents tiles will appear. One tile is called "camera". tap on it to check if your camera is working properly!

You sure you got that correct. I looked at the User Manual, all 275 pages of it, and no where in there does it mention a Service Menu.

On my Verizon phone that simply tried to dial out as a Contact's number.
VZW bitched about that being an invalid phone number for "some reason"

Yeah just checked it again and it works.
The test menu looks like it is not really official, but works great =)

Maybe Verizon deactivated that feature?

Asked a friend of mine with a Verizon Galaxy S5 and yes, the service menu is deactivated at Verizon...
