I am thinking of switching to an S5 from my Iphone, partly to be freed from Itunes, which I hate. Does the S5 have an Iphone-like personal hotspot feature so I can connect my wifi tablet to the internet via the phone (likely with Verizon if that matters)?

There's an app called FoxFi that you can download to get that. Otherwise I think it depends on your carrier. Verizon wanted to rip me off an extra $30/mo to use the same data I already pay $30/mo for. So I just use FoxFi, which works on the S5.

Thanks, Cyde. With AT&T it is gratis on my Iphone, but I go places where Verizon works better.....

My AT&T S5 has it. I've used it a few times. Works great!

I used my iPhone 5 and now my galaxy s5 as a hot spot all the time with no addition charges from Verizon. I also don't have to use any special apps, just what's built into to s5 settings.
