Blurry fast moving pictures with the Samsung S5
Hi and new to the forum.
I've been an iPhone user from the 3 to the 5S but decided to give the Android a shot and altho I like many of the phones features, the camera isn't producing pic's anywhere as good as my old iPhone 5S did ... :(
Stationary shots are fine, but I have 2 dogs and like to photograph them running around and doing their thing, and so far the S5 has been terrible with results. I've tried every setting on the phone. I've DL the 'Sports Shot' mode, but still all I get is a heap of blurry shots. In an hour at the local doggy park I'll take 50 - 60 shots and end up keeping 3 or 4 as the rest are blurred.
Now I REALLY want this phone to work for me, but as I say I'm not having much luck with pics, the video is fine, but yeah, not cutting it with the pictures so NEED HELP!!!
For example.
iPhone 5S...

When you have the camera up click on Mode . If you don't have sports and action click on download and download it . That should help .

Re: Blurry fast moving pictures with the Samsung S5
Have you tried utilizing burst mode?

Are you holding the phone steady? The image of the two dogs looks blurred due to camera shake. Another problem is auto focusing on the subject correctly. The dogs are slightly off center. If you don't hold the camera steady it will auto focus more than once. You might try image stababization to see if that helps..
The iPhone is much smaller and as a result there is less chance of blurring due to shake..

What Colyn said^^^
Grass appearing blurred in an image is indicative of camera movement (because we know the grass isn't moving) Same with the fence line in the background...we know those poles weren't moving so the camera had to be.

+1 I should have looked at his pic more . I was taking pictures at Watkins Glen of cars going by at over 160mph with out any blur . Got to agree operator error .

I grabbed another pic earlier of a bus doing prob 50kph and that's blurry too, but can't seem to upload it now, will do so later today. I used a wall to hold phone steady too π

Did you pan the shot or hold the camera in the same position??

You're missing the point, Paul, a single object in motion won't make the entire photograph blurry. I took this pic with the "Shot & More" mode...notice how the grass and the church aren't blurred even though the truck is clearly in motion.

...and I hate to ask the obvious, but.....did you take all the plastic off the phone? Even the tiny little square over the camera lens?

Ok fair enough with that pic, but what about this one? I used the rail at the top of the pic to lean on for stability, and held the camera as stable as I could. Bearing in mind with my iPhone I'd just pull out of pocket and bang! ... anything or anyone, objects while driving down the motorway, dogs running around at the park, and even ppl on push bikes! No messing with settings, just point and shoot and rarely had a blurry shot.
Anyway, with this pic the outer of the photo is relatively clean, but ole mate on the bike is as blurred as usual ...
Sports Shot mode ...

This was decent for 'moving', but just slow moving traffic, nothing moving too fast really ...

Re: Blurry fast moving pictures with the Samsung S5
Oh and yes, took lens cover off but question...
Should I be pressing or hitting the middle of the screen before taking picture?

Re: Blurry fast moving pictures with the Samsung S5
Try turning off picture stabilization in the settings...don't quote me, but it seems to make the camera "work" faster. As for touching the screen, i think that just tells the camera where to focus.
-
Re: Blurry fast moving pictures with the Samsung S5
Don't use picture stabilization mode.
Oh was hoping I'd sussed it with taping the screen.
Will see how it goes tomorrow at doggy park and gonna take a tripod too. NOT that I want to use a tripod every time I take a pic, but if I get better pics every time then maybe best to sell it and get an iPhone again as my hand is obv too shaky for the Samsung ... π―

Re: Blurry fast moving pictures with the Samsung S5
This is one of my gripes about this phone as well. Even when using the sport shot mode, it takes blurry pictures. It takes great pictures in the good lighting if the objects are stationary but this camera kind of sucks for everything else. Come on HTC One M9. I'm ready for a something new already. LOL

Re: Blurry fast moving pictures with the Samsung S5
Yeah got friend with his S4 yesterday to snap a few pics while slowly panning from left to right and all 5 pics were blurred!
Lovely stationary pics but most of my subjects are moving! ... π’

Since you are having problems with the stock camera app why not try a couple of others... Camera Zoom FX is a good one. You tap the screen where you want it to focus and it shoots the image. You'll first have to set it up with settings and adjustments and you might try the free version before buying.. Another one I like is Camera 360. You can get either or both from Google Play..

All good mate, I've found success with hitting the screen before every shot, or gone one better and set the camera to take a pic when I hit the screen.
Took a pic earlier with my phone being shook almost frantically and even that was clear βΊ
Will see how we go with doggy pics later today at the dog park.

Re: Blurry fast moving pictures with the Samsung S5
Just a suggestion but do you have HDR on? I have found it can have an impact on shutter speed and overall noise in the image.
The phone seems to take slower pictures with HDR on and the result is slightly more grainy in all conditions except direct sunlight.

No all settings off, but most are disabled anyway once you go into 'Sports Shot' mode.

Re: Blurry fast moving pictures with the Samsung S5
Ok have DL and installed Camera Zoom FX bit 1) after seeing up 'tap anywhere to focus and take shot' it doesn't work every time, but more important 2) it's even slower than stock camera.
Stock camera seems pretty fast taking pic, it's just most are blurry still.
One last chance today worth hopefully more sunlight as it was a bit dull yesterday, but if still no good I'm forced to sell it and go back to the iPhone as I can rely on that too give me crisp shots 90% of the time!
