I plan to use my Galaxy S5 almost exclusivly for Google maps. I changed from touch wiz to Google now. Google maps runs fine on both. I want to travel extensively but since I have a mere 500 mg of data (I don't want to Pay for more}, I plan to disable WIFI and DATA while travelling and use previously downloaded maps of the areas I'll be travelling in. Any tips or advice.?

Get a good sized microSD card and store as many maps on it as you want. The launcher (TouchWiz or Google Now) won't make any difference in Data usage, especially since they'll be turned off.

double check your wifi settings though - to help with location, make sure you still allow location to use wifi, even when wifi is turned off. It doesn't use data (to my knowledge) but it does allow the location software to help find you in addition to mobile network towers and GPS by comparing your location to known wifi hotspots.

try nova launcher, it is awesome, you can make your icons any size you want, have up to 7 screens, and so much more, way too many even list, does not affect the phone at all, I have it on my s4 and my s5
