Galaxy s5 on lollipop, have display adapter not connecting, but as Julien Comme Julien in post #18 states 1 in 10 will connect. Which surprised me. Firmware update required from MS should see better results. just need to find someone with 8.1 or a nokia lumia perhaps to do firmware update. On a side note my blackberry z30 connected no bother.

    Hi!

I have the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter (MWDA) and it worked with my Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910W8 with Android 4.4.4.

But, as soon as my Galaxy Note 4 got Android 5.0.1, MWDA stopped connecting.
The TV screen goes black around each 5 seconds as if it was just about to connect, then flashes back to the "Connecting..." window before timing out.

I installed the MWDA app from Windows Store on my computer running Windows 8.1.
I connected the MWDA adapter on my TV.
I started MWDA app on my computer and I just updated the firmware in the MWDA adapter.

Now, my Galaxy Note 4 can connect correctly. I’m so happy.

    MWDA app said:
    • Old firmware version: 1.2.7303
    • New firmware version: 1.3.8220 Date: 2015-05-26 Size: 17 MB

    Bonne journée!

Recently purchased a Samsung S6 phone and Tab4 Tablet. They both connected to the Microsoft Wireless Display without issue. Also have a Nexus and HTC m8 that connect fine.

Had issues with the S6 and ATT replaced the phone. The new phone that works for everything else tries but fails to connect to the Wireless Display Adapter.

Doesn't make since that one S6 did connect and another doesn't. Must be a setting or update change somewhere causing the problem.

I am in the same boat with the exact same configuration as OP (and my original Surface Pro works with it.)
This is just a plea to the public to JUST VERIFY if any of you has gotten your Samsung Galaxy S5 to connect to the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter. Anyone?

I bought a Microsoft wireless display adapter model 1628, and it connects to my daughters s4, my son's s5, but will not connect to my new s6. My mhl doesn't work with the s6 either. According to samsung the mhl 2.0 will work with the s4,s5, but an mhl 3.0 is needed for the s6. I thought this was supposed to be easier. I will try Chromecast and firet stick to mirror s6.

I'm glad i saw this thread bc my Note 3 used to connect to my MWDA, but now it doesn't, and now i know why.
But when i tried to download the adapter app on my win7 laptop, MS requires me to upgrade to win10 first to download from their app store. Well I'm not ready to do that yet, I'll let win 10 settle out a few more months. Also the remarks on that apps page are almost all bad about the update not working, claiming the win 10 ver is bad.
I will have to wait for awhile, or try a different brand adapter.

Thanks for the info i got here!

My wife's Tab 4 is still running Android 4.1.1. It connects. My Galaxy S5 and Tab 4 are both running Android 5 and don't connect. Don't know if it's Microsoft's issue or Samsungs...but I'm taking my MS Display Adapter back to Best Buy for a refund.

I have a MWDA and use a Note 4. It worked with Android 5.0.1. AT&T pushed 5.1.1 update and it stopped fully connecting.
I went to a Microsoft Store locally and their tech guys didn't have a clue. I called Microsoft and they said "they didn't have a department that supports this product. (MS is never going to gain on Apple in the phone area with this level of support)
I went to an AT&T Device Service Center and they were clueless. I called AT&T and the agent said she would escalate this to the appropriate group.
Probably will never hear from them.
I went to the Microsoft Site that supports this product. It only refers to Microsoft Products like the Surface relative to use of the product.
It doesn't address that this is a Miracast device and that 10's of millions of phones (primarily Samsung) are Miracast certified so anyone like myself could benefit.

[B]MICROSOFT PUBLISHED AN UPDATE TO THE MWDA FIRMWARE ON 11-26-2015. FIRMWARE VERSION 1.3.8305
One needs a Window PC running 8.1 or above to download the update app from Microsoft.
Plug the adapter into the PC USB. Run the app, and it will allow the firmware to update on the adapter. (You can even rename the adapter with the app.)
Following the update Android 5.1.1 will connect again fully with the adapter.
I sure thousands of these adapters are being returned because of such poor support. It COULD BE a great product for Microsoft if they got their head out of the sand.
    I hope this helps.

Actually I was able to get a Samsung galaxy tablet working one time out of 10 tries. So it CAN connect to the microsoft display adapter, just doesn't want to. And it's NOT like a hitch on a car, it's like buying a car and then getting it and finding out wheels cost extra. I'm trying to get my bosses Samsung connected to cast photos. Am an it tech, had to tell her when it only was able to do it the once, that Samsung has their own adapter so that's probably why.

Part of the problem is the auto connect feature in their miracast app. But they left that bug there probably on purpose. The auto connect features make any Miracast less reliable. If you have the kind that says device available, and then click it to connect...those work every time.

I had the same problems connection the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 and the NotePro 12.2 to the Microsoft Wireless Adapter.
The firmware update of the Microsoft Wireless Adapter did the trick for me. I wrote a small step-by-step solution, you can find it here: Alternatives to the Samsung AllShare LinkCast Dongle for Sharing your Android Tablet Screen | Mind-Objects

I managed to get around this by updating the Microsoft Wireless Adapter's firmware, by downloading an app to my Surface Pro 4.
The Pro 4 synced, but my Galaxy Note 4 wouldn't. I updated the firmware and it worked first time.

Your post was very helpful. I recently purchased the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter (MWDA) Version 1.0 (The Original One) and was puzzled as to why it would not mirror the screen on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. After downloading the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter App from the Windows store on my Windows 10 laptop I was presented with a settings screen that showed a few details. I was given the option to update my firmware and after doing so everything worked great. I only want to use the MWDA for screen mirroring my Android device so I can consume my unlimited data plan. I also tested the adapter with my wife's Samsung Galaxy S6 and that worked great as well when mirroring the display. Be sure to use Quick Connect from your phone's drop-down notification screen if you are using a recent Samsung device. This device uses Mircast technology and Wifi-Direct to wirelessly display screens.Thank you.
