Why do I get two email notifications when I receive emails (Galaxy S5)?

galaxy s5: email help, getting notifications from both apps

I have the gmail app on my main page, I have tried to remove the stock email app. I put it hidden in my "apps" icon on bottom of screen. However i still get 2 notifications on top menu bar when i have new e-mails. it is still registering in both apps. Is there anyway I can just use the gmail app?

will the gmail app let me use two accounts?

Welcome to Android Central! Hiding the app in the App Drawer only hides it from view there--it doesn't deactivate the app. Can you just remove the email accounts from the stock Email app? Another thing you can do is to open the Email app, tap Menu, then Settings, then select the email account and look for the notifications settings. You could turn the notifications off for that account, or change it to a silent tone.
