Had to Charge Battery 3 Times Today???

I'm hoping someone can take a look at my screenshots to help shine light on what's going on. As the header says, I've had to charge my battery three times today. I've beer listening to an audiobook all day (on SD card, not streaming).

Unless I'm not interpreting this right, I'm not sure why it's showing that my screen has been on that long, because it hasn't. It times out pretty quickly, as it always does.

I do have my data sync on (mostly use in app settings to control), and location is set for high accuracy.

Also, I have a security update that will not install. I have it set for auto update. I've tried it on wifi as 4g.

Hoping someone can shed light. TIA!

1) The phone is awake much too long. Check the wakelocks and stop the apps that are waking it. (If you need email checked every 5 minutes, you have to pay the "battery-man" for the use.)

2) CM browser eats a lot more battery than some other browsers.

3) Based on the Screen line, 21% screen on time seems about right.

4) You have a lot of apps running for long periods. That costs battery.

Uninstalled CM Browser. By 10am, phone completely died. Maybe quick connect is the issue?

How to do I check Wake Locks?

give this a try, no cost option.

turn off MobileData and WiFi unless you just absolutely must connect to the internet.

I'm willing to bet the battery life improves immensely. see my signature.

Need some info please..

Was your battery use fine for a long time and then this just recently started or was your battery usage always this bad?
Have you tried turning the phone completely off and restart it?
Have you tried a factory reset (know that sucks but sometimes it is necessary)

Also for the security update.. I am wondering if the phone is continuously trying to update it and that is draining your battery. My battery has always been amazing since I bought the phone in June but one time it started draining a lot faster than normal. After looking at the GSAM battery monitor app, I saw the e-mail app had a huge amount of use. I had tried to send an e-mail earlier with an attachment and just assumed it sent but it was actually trying to send the e-mail over and over. I rebooted and problem solved.

AZ. Did all that. Still sucks. I had data, WiFi, location... Everything turned off. Was ok, but when I re-enabled it, it started to drain quick.

Drunder, yes, it was fantastic until Saturday.

I'm thinking a factory reset is coming. I do have a question... I I have screenshots of the regular battery stuff, better battery stats & battery doctor for 2 different days.

I'm not rooted. But, I'm not sure which of of the screenshots that will be helpful for you to see (of the other apps, not the stock settings.
So, I'm just going to post them, but I would appreciate if you would also tell me which of the screenshots were relevant & which ones didn't really add value. I've also had a nonstop message in my notifications from one of the battery apps that says phone is 100% awake even when screen is off.

I was just going to comment "that is more details than I can wade thru" :p

Click on EDIT, jump to the top of your post, highlight only the text portion, then do a Control-x to suck the text out. then do a Control-A and hit delete.... this only works if you are using a computer though, not from the phone.

Okay, you said it was okay until you turned the internet back on. That to me, says that something is really trying to do a lot of downloading. Do you have the PlayStore Auto Updates turned OFF?

Do you have the phone's System Auto Updates turned OFF?

Do you have a lot of social apps that really like to stay connected all the time?
Do you have your accounts set up to stay sync'd up? I have auto-sync turned off on everything period.

I am getting 3 days per battery charge cycle, you should be able to do the same provided you do all of the above, and always turn off the internet when the screen is locked. see my signature.

Thanks Gold!
AZ, could you take a look now that Gold got rid my trillion duplicates?
I still can't figure out why this is happening. I'm now making sure I have everything moved over to my SD card and as much as I dread it, it's looking like a factory reset is coming in the next few days. Just wish I understood those readings more to figure it out but I'm learning so much from you all.

I just did a review and note 7 hrs on battery, and of that, you had 5+ hours of screen time.

That is a LOT of screen 'on' time. With that much activity going on, I am not surprised by the heavy battery drain.

I note a lot of social apps, coupon apps, deal maker apps. All of those are going to be continuously trying to stay in touch with the host servers. That is a lot of data transfer going on.

I also noticed OverDrive on there. Are you doing a lot of video streaming? If so, then that will be a heavy drain on the battery.

I am going to show a screenshot of my wife's S5 here. Not to demean your S5's use, but only to show that if the CPU is not busy all the time, and if the Screen time is minimal, that battery use is extremely low. My wife's phone is not an example of most folk's use of a phone. She takes calls, does not make any. and that is it, period.

I also have a screenshot of my S5's battery, about 2 days per charge.

I suggest that you take a real hard look at what you are doing and make a priority list on what is "most important" to you. If you feel that you need to be using the phone a lot, then that is more important than battery life is. You must accept that your phone will be living on a charging cord all day.

I think that if you prioritize what is needed, and if you turn off the WiFi and DATA radios when the phone is not in use, then you can make the battery last longer than it is now doing for you. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Screen ON, battery dies. Screen OFF, battery lives a long time.

My S5 goes about 2 days on a charge... but I am NOT a social critter, I do not have any of those apps loaded like you do. No Facebook, No Twitter, no auction sites, no book sites, no libraries. My phone is used as a technical research tool mostly, GPS maps, find me the next restaurant to eat at... and then it goes in my pocket. Take a look at my signature, investigate using MacroDroid to turn off the radios when not needed.

Ya, I've been going through the whole, how to close stuff out. I wasn't always hitting the exit button. I don't auto sync, I turn off wifi/mobile as appropriate, all weird settings are off. I finally went in and did a bunch of "Force Stops" for the apps that were showing running. It's weird too, out of the blue, I will get a random notification (let's say from Khol's) alerting me of a sale. All app notifications are off, etc. No, wasn't streaming onedrive, I downloaded an audio book but then turned that sync off too.

I'm not streaming a bunch of apps intentionally but I guess overall, it's strange because it started happening out of the blue. I'm guessing it's a rouge app. I'm not rooted, so the wakelock readings were no help whatsoever.

Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it!
