I have a galaxy s5 and it is rooted (was rooted when I got it). I notice that the battery was draining faster than usual, so I decided to buy a new battery. The problem is that the battery has the same behavior, you can't go 10 hours without having to recharge the phone and this is without heavy usage: pretty much just messaging, calls and email. I see that the porcess that is consuming the battery is the gpsd service but I have the gps disable.
Any ideas on what I can do?

That's normally caused by some app running in the background that's requesting accurate location information. See what's running in the background, kill it and see if gpsd stops being "tickled" so much. If it's an app you don't use, and you can't keep it from rerunning after you kill it, uninstall it. (gpsd itself draws virtually no power.)

A simple Restart can take care of that sometimes, but you mentioned changing the battery so that did a hard boot.

I have restarted the phone, erase it to factory setting, disable syncing,.... but the problem persists

Okay, let's try this test for tonight.

pull down Notification panel and turn OFF both WiFi and MobileData.

let that cruise for the night.... if it is an app that is trying to talk to the internet, that will stop it in its' tracks.

I use MacroDroid to do this as standard protocol on my phone, see my signature.
