YOU MUST HAVE REGISTERED YOUR PHONE WITH GOOGLE !!!!!! it wouldn't be the worst thing to register with Samsung, either.

Use the Google Settings application to access Android Device Manager.

Touch Apps App Icon > Google Settings Google Settings Icon > Android Device Manager

you will be shown a map where your phone is, hopefully, it's right next to you.
in the description box you will see 3 options CHOOSE LOCK
it will then take you to a screen:

    New lock screen

"Your current lock screen will be replaced with a password lock. Don't use your Google account password.
New Password Confirm password Recovery message (optional)
This message will show on your lock screen.
    Phone number (optional)"

choose a password, enter it on your PHONE screen and VOILA !!!!!! you're in. all your info just as you left it.

    your welcome

MAKE SURE YOU REGISTER YOUR PHONE or you're SOL with a Hard Reset
