i am getting very pissed off at s5 camera it has been sucking so badly for a 16 mp camera.iphones have only 8 but it takes a better moving shot than the s5.everytime i try taking a moving shot or even a STILL shot the picture always and i said ALWAYS comes out blurry everytime its getting on my nerves.considering iphone as my next phone cant believe samsung is giving high mp cameras but giving **** quality photos and i have lollipop 5.0 on my s5 just in case if that would help.

    any help is appreciated.

Try holding the camera still for a second after you press the shutter button. There is sometimes lag.

Which camera firmware version do you have?

To locate this, go to the dial pad and enter *#34971539#

This will bring up the screen, "CameraFirmware Standard". Go to, "PHONE/CAM FW VER CHECK" and look at, "Rear Camera (MAIN)" and see what it says against, "CAM FW Ver :"

True story bro. Taken with S5.

If you just got the phone make sure you take off the plastic covering the camera lense.

Or maybe you got a bad piece of hardware.

    Did you buy it used?

iPhone takes nice pics. But really no nicer than the S5 IMO. Spousal unit has iPhone 6 -- it's ok. If I had to use it I would.

I'll be honest I am also disappointed with my photos, my old GS2 takes better pics and its only 8MP, mine like yours come out blurry a lot of the time.

Make sure you go into the camera app and turn off "HDR" mode. This causes the camera to take more photos over a few seconds and stitch them together for a nice, crisp, hi res photo. If you've got moving subjects (like your photo above, OP), then they will come out crap. IIRC, "HDR" is the default mode on the app...

The difference between BR34KF4ST's photo and the_stig#WN's photos is that BR34KF4ST's has a photo taken at dusk/night. And yep, the S5 takes miserable low light photos and videos. One thing that will help (though not much) is if you turn off "Picture stabilization" for low light photos. That or use a tripod to take night shots. They'll still be noisy but it'll help a bit.

EDIT: I see that "Picture stabilization" has been removed for Lollipop (I'm still running KitKat). In that case, disable "Auto Night Detection" in your camera settings and see if that helps.

My wife got some good pics on her trip to Africa last month. In fact I'd say they were better than the Canon Powershot I lent her.

S5 doesn't use multiple photos for HDR.
Blurry photos in low light are because s5 camera tends to choose long exposure times like 1/30 or 1/15 instead of boosting ISO. Try manual ISO 800 settings. Often helps with blurry images. Sadly there's no ISO 1000 - 2000 in settings.

Thanks! She had lots and lots. The S5 really rocked as a camera. And these were just the 2.4mb image size too.

And try holding it still when taking pictures in low light. Shutter stays open longer. Basic photography technique. Nothing wrong with the phone. Down to user error.

I absolutely hate the camera, amongst other things on this phone. I'm pretty fed up with it. I've only had it for about 7 months and I'm ready to be rid of it.

The lower the light, the slower the shutter or the larger the f-stop. The slower the shutter, the more blur on moving objects. That's photography 101, not S5. S5 is the iris is open all the way, so its only choice is a slower shutter.

If you'll notice in the picture in post #2, the lines painted on the road aren't blurry. They don't move very fast.

The thing is people.....cameras work on light being able to enter into the lens (the f stop is how much light gets let in, the lower the more light, the more light the more detail). The OP's photo is at night in a poorly lit area with the object so far away that not even a dslr flash could light it up. People have too much expectations out of cameras. You cannot expect a good photo to be taken at night like that and come out good.

When I changed from an iPhone 4s to this s5, it was a step down with low light photos. The iPhone can handle low light conditions much better than the s5. I think most of people's dissapointment, at least mine, was that I had a phone that was 2 generations older and it took better photos than my new s5.
