Email Icon counts

Why does the gmail app icon always show 99+ and the email icon always shows 30 emails even after I clean up my mailboxes and know for sure that I have 0 unread emails? Is there a fix for this? When I was on ios as soon as I had all emails read the counts from the app icons used to disappear.

Hello there!
The email count does disappear after you check your emails.
Either your email app has a bug or the software on your device is acting up.
Did this happen after an update or a new download?

I experienced this immediately after the Lollipoop update....along with several other annoying glitches and inconveniences. Sadly, after trying a few different troubleshooting suggestions, the only thing that worked to fix the problem was a factory reset.

I had a similar problem and had to reset the badgeprovider. Here is a link to the site where I got the instructions. It was for Jellybean but worked for my lollipop phone too. Hope it helps.
