So last week I accidentally screwed up my S5 by deleting the "google play store" app after successfully rooting. I did not realize that so many "other" apps rely on that. I used Kies to get back to a factory reset state (as I forgot to do a NANROID backup). So I am happy for that but I now can not re-root my phone as it keeps failing. My question is am I only able to root once ?

No, you can root more than once if need be. Did Android update after you went to factory?

First of all, No need to root if you want play store back. Just download it from web and install. Or, Install the custom rom zip file from recovery mode.

If you want to re-root hardly then you have to unroot your phone and then root again.
