I got a new Galaxy S5 about a year ago and put my old SIM card in it to transfer my contacts. The SIM card was used in a Motorola Atrix HD and a Nokia Lumia 520. I need to update and delete some of the original contacts that I put on the SIM card when I was using the two previous phones. However, my Galaxy S5 simply will not register any of the changes. If I choose to delete one of the contacts, it says "The contact will be deleted" but then nothing happens. If I try to edit one of the contacts, it says "Unable to save contact."

This issue only occurs when attempting to edit contacts that were added to the SIM card on either of the two previous phones. If I try to edit or delete a contact that I added using my Galaxy S5, everything works just fine. It sounds like this is an authentication/security issue of some kind, but how do I get around it?

Go into SIM settings and copy or save/transfer all SIM contacts into your phone.
Then try to do what you need and copy or transfer back to SIM.

I suggest you start saving all your contacts to your Google account.
That way they are always there no matter what device you use.

Thanks for responding. This doesn't fix the underlying problem unfortunately, but it's a pretty good cover-up. It leads to 3 copies of the same contact (one in SIM, one imported from SIM, and one exported back to SIM). Not a big deal since they can be filtered out through the Contacts app. I guess the only way to fix the problem at its root is to go through AT&T and get a new SIM card since it appears to not want to unlock itself for my device.

That could be the culprit, my suggestion stands about saving your contacts to your Google account.
    Good luck!
