VZW sent me a small padded envelope to mail the S5 that I'm trading it.. what if it gets damaged?

I submitted a trade-in for my S5. VZW send me a small padded envelope to mail it to them. They are paying for the return postage. The instructions says to drop the envelope in any mailbox.

Is it just me or does that seem somewhat risky? What happens if it gets damaged or lost by the US Post Office? Am I better off just spending a few bucks and ship it back insured for $200? (which is what the trade-in value is)

Did it come with any fine print? Is it through Asurion, or some other phone insurance company?
