Can I connect my Samsung Galaxy S5 to a lan cable to access internet?

A

AC Question

I will be in a hotel room that has a ethernet cable but no wifi so I like to connect my phone to the cable to access the internet .

I have a USB2 OTG cable and a USB to RJ45 ethernet cable but when I connect it all up and try the web browser, the phone just say that it requires a Wi Fi connection.

I tried rooting the phone but keep getting a fail in Odin.

Slightly off topic... but that is a very old firmware that you are on. All G900i models, AFAIK, have now received Android 5.0 Lollipop. Some are on their 3rd update. NE1 is a May 2014 build.

The only way this works if you use one of the small WiFi boxes such as those from RAVPower which has WiFi and a ethernet port. Then you can share the hotel Internet as WiFi to your phone.
