When I tap my Chrome app button it leads to my Google account (not to Chrome), why does it do this?

When I tap my Chrome app button it leads to my Google account (not to Chrome).

This is a new Samsung Galaxy S5 using Verizon service. It comes pre-loaded with the Chrome app but when I tap it it leads me to a Google My Account page rather than a browser page.
I considered uninstalling Chrome and then reinstalling it fresh, but the system asks if I want to uninstall this "android system app" and I'm not clear what would happen to the phone if I did that.

Welcome to Android Central! First, is there a Google account associated with the phone? Second, when My Account page shows up, is it a system menu, or is it actually a webpage that Chrome is showing?
