Is it possible to downgrade the Samsung Galaxy S5 Back to Lollipop? I have the Marshmallow update and hate it. It has to many bugs, such as the camera not working, Bluetooth not connecting, and so on. Any help on how to downgrade would be appreciated, thanks!

If you factory reset the device, it should come up with the original software. Back up your data of course...

I would suggest you to do a factory data reset and check whether everything is working fine.
Still, if you want to downgrade to Lollipop, you would need to download the stock firmware(in MD5 format) and flash it through Odin.

Won't that would lead the OP back to Marshmallow itself and not Lollipop? Or, I read your post wrong.

No you're correct. A factory reset will only remove downloaded apps and all settings will go back to stock.

I was having performance issues on my Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8. I made a back up on Kies, then reset factory settings, then restored the back up and it was all good except for the old whatsapp messages which were all lost. I had some important information on them so I needed the old messages.

I repeated the same process again but after the factory settings reset, and before the restore from Kies, I left the phone for some time so it downloaded the 6.0.1 update. I was about to sleep then I hit install update so by the morning it is ready for the restoration from Kies.

All backup files are still there but the problem is after this update, Kies is not able to restore most of information, including memos (*.nmm file of the regular memos application, not the Samsung notes) which are even much more important to me.
Plus checklist application with many to do list items that were saved on it.
plus indeed the whatsapp which is all lost. I am not sure yet what else was lost that I need to restore but I was just shocked to lose all the backup like this. only contacts restored with problems and messages. everything else is gone, like lock screen, desktop, settings, ...etc.

    HELP!!!!

Whatsapp has its own backup and restore facility under... Whatsapp > Menu (3 dots) > Settings > Chats > Chat backup

Samsung Kies has been replaced by Samsung Smart Switch

See, also, Backup! Backup! Backup! NOW!

    Hi again,
Too late to talk about how to back up now. Upgrade is already installed and all data is gone from the phone.
I was asking if there is a way to restore the backup files that were done by Kies back to my phone. it looks like because it is a newer android that the one used during the backup, Kies is unable to restore the same files back to the phone.
Alternatively, if this is not possible, if I downgrade back to the old android, is it possible to do the restore

so back was all done by Kies and files are still here. just need to put them back on the phone. I will try anything that works.

It, "may", work if you download and flash your original stock Samsung firmware for your model of phone, CSC and Product codes by following the instructions and video contained in the links of #1.11 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide. I am dubious as Smart Switch has been the recommended backup and restore for Samsung since the launch of Lollipop, Android 5.0.

I have Android M, none of the issues you mentioned, factory reset should solve your problems.

it was ok, but it no longer worked after I upgraded to 6.0.1 Marshmallow (before I restore). This is where I am stuck.

    Hello,

I had the same problem with Marshmallow on my Galaxy S5. I saw your posts and used it. My phone restarted frequently but after I used Smart Switch Samsung( or Kies 3) to getting a backup from all the data and did a factory reset, now it works well and has no problem, so for users who have these problems I really suggest this and there is no disadvantageous in it. And Thanks you so much for getting idea to solve my problem.

Also, in my searching I see that you can downgrade Marshmallow to Lollipop on your own, with downloading "ROM" that is related to the code of your Galaxy S5. Before doing anything, you should get a backup and then install the ROM. but I don't suggest it because it violated guarantee ( in my country at least) and if you really are forced to do this check the terms of your mobile guarantee first. and also, first read about the process well, because when I read it I thought it may take long and it's complicated.
