I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S5 on Verizon. Has the very latest software including today's security patch.

I had a 32GB SD Card for two years without problems. Then one day it was corrupted. Still don't know why. So I bought two different 128GB SD Cards. Both had the same problem. After a while if I checked the Storage menu, it will sit there on "Checking...". It takes about 10 minutes for the SD Card to be checked and then it's available. This happens on every reboot.

    Is this normal?

    Definitely not normal.

SD cards do have a "lifespan", so the 32gb card dying might not be surprising if you've used it a lot. However, I've been using my cards for many years and never had one corrupt. You still might be able to fix the card by running chkdsk on a PC.

As for the 128gb cards, you might try running SD Insight to check if they're fakes. Depending on where you bought them, and what you paid, they could very well be fakes.

Of course it could be the card reader in the phone being the problem. Hope not!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that it's possible there's just a corrupt file on the SD card... and the phone is taking a long time to get past it. If you backup your SD contents to your PC, and then reformat the card and stick it back in the phone, does it still take a long time to get past the SD check?

    UPDATE:

This turned out to be an OS issue. After an update to the OS my problems were solved. No more corrupted SD card. I don't have the details of exactly which update it was. I've left my Samsung Galaxy S5 behind and I'm now on a Samsung Galaxy S9+. But I wanted to document that there is nothing I could have done to fix this.
