I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 SM G900V phone that I've had for a year now. It was a replacement phone received via the insurance company that I had less than a week before someone bumped into me and the phone fell. Including touch capability the phone still worked and didn't look cracked but the screen had gone black after a week. I wasn't able to get a new phone without paying the insurance so I used another phone that I had which has recently gone bad.

While I await the delivery of the Google Pixel XL 128g, I need a phone asap so I'm wanting to know whether or not I just need to replace the screen or the digitizer?

Replacing the digitizer alone is a lot of labor (which you pay for). Replacing the whole screen including the digitizer (which is probably what you need - a bad digitizer won't cause the screen to go black) costs more for the screen, but a lot less for labor. So it's probably about the same price. I'd go for the whole screen (or for a cheap phone until the Pixel arrives).

Search for a fix on this. The s5 has a plug that is notorious for coming unplugged with a drop.
