I found several online "solutions" to the "Screen overlay detected problem," but none of them work on my AT&T Galaxy S5. The archives at this forum also come up short for me. I'm wondering if I need to root the device. Has anybody found a working solution to this apparently widespread nuisance? If so, pleeeeeeeaze share. I cannot find the setting "Draw Over Other Apps."

There are quite a few lengthy threads about it on these forums -- you weren't able to find any good ones with the search function? I'll admit that the new forum template's search function leaves a lot to be desired. I noticed that now, it only gives individual posts as results, rather than showing the thread heading (which also shows how extensive the discussion is at a glance, thus making it easier to figure out which threads are worth looking at).

Try this one: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...often-some-apps-what-how-properly-select.html
