G900F or G900V?

I am going to buy a second phone, and as I travel to the states now and then, a G900V looks sensible. However, when I compare the US G900V with the European G900F I find only the following differences – all in the comms section.

G900V (US) has the following over the G900F (EU)

2G network CDMA 800/1900
3G network CDMA2000
Data network CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev 0, CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev A

4G network

where the G900V (US) has LTE Cat4 700/1700 (Bands 4,13)

the G900F (EU) has LTE Cat4 800/850/900/1800/2100/2600 (Bands 1,2,3,5,7,8,20)

I have no idea where all these comms protocols are used, so my question is – if I were to use the G900V (US) in Europe, what would be missing?

Many thanks for any help.

Hello and welcome to Android Central Farmer_Terry

The U.S. network uses the old, obsolete, CDMA network for 2G & 3G and the Global model of the Samsung Galaxy S5, G900F, which is a GSM phone will not be compatible. It will however, be partially compatible on the Verizon 4G/LTE network on the Band 2, 1900MHz. So, not very desirable for Verizon but OK, worldwide.

The Verizon carrier minority variant, G900V, of the Galaxy S5 is, as mentioned, a CDMA phone that will work on most European 2G & 3G networks but very few, if any, European 4G/LTE networks.

It should also be born in mind that the G900V is very heavily carrier customised and updates and some features will only work if you are registered and connected to the Verizon network.

Many thanks for that – it looks as if the G900V is not a good phone for me if I want one to use worldwide. I’ll stick to another G900F. :)

I had a look at the “See... #1.6 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide” link and it looks as if there is something wrong with the actual link – it has http twice at the front so doesn’t work.

http://http//androidforums.com/threads/42-galaxy-s5-models-dummies-guide.892162/

Once the second http has been removed, it’s fine, but the same thing applies to the “will my phone work link” - http://http//willmyphonework.net/

Hope this is useful.
