Or at least I think it's a loop... I'm not sure how many updates a new phone usually downloads when starting for the first time, but it is currently installing system update for the fourth time. And he does "optimizing apps" every time, which takes forever because the NEW phone somehow has 296 apps installed! They just keep on coming, and my phone is getting alarmingly hot. It also resets certain settings after every update, like screen brightness... and gives "first time notifications" all over again, like telling me to close the lid at the back of the phone for waterproofing...

I will try comparing update version numbers to see if it's the same update every time.

EDIT: Installed yet another update. The code of the update is identical, except for one letter, which gets one letter "higher" every time (last one was D, previous one was C, so on). Update size is very similar but not quite the same (85MB, last one 86,7MB).

EDIT 2: Update number 5 complete, and I'm not immediately getting any more updates. I'm going to let the phone charge and cool down for the night. It drained 80% in just 2 hours...

That does seem extremely odd. It may help if you could post which of the 42 models of Galaxy S5 you have. See, 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide.

Item #1.2 will show you how to locate your model and #1.8 will show you how to locate and decipher your firmware details.
