You can turn on waking your screen by Waving your hand over it in the settings menu.

Settings > accessibility > dexterity and interactions > gesture wake up

Pretty handy feature considering we don't have double tap to wake or have to press the buttons. Putting your phone in and out of your pocket doesn't affect it since it has to lay flat to work.

I've found a third party app that takes this a little further. Gravity Screen

I had a MotoX (2013) and OnePlus One before this phone. Both of them had cool features for screen wake (proximity or double-tap). Gravity screen works well for me as I also use ACDisplay for my lockscreen. The S6 is VERY similar to how my MotoX used to work and I LOVE it. Battery drain is minimal and accidental wakes are pretty rare.

I can now just take it out of my pocket for wake, and then put it back to put it to sleep "Look ma, no button pressing"!
