notifications generally

If notifications are on, am I right in saying they'll always feature in a locked screen? I would prefer to have a choice of how I see the notification like I did with my iPhone, maybe an alert at the top of an unlocked screen, or a red number over the app indicating a message etc. Is this possible or are they either on, and feature in a locked screen, or off?

In notification settings you can change how much, if any, information appears on the lock screen.

Yeah seen that where you can hide, show or not show, but can that not be done for apps individually? Also, if I hide I assume that's in the locked screen, what happens when I go into the unlocked screen?

I think you have individual control over app notifications on the home screen/notification bar, but on Lock screen the enabled notifications are either all on or all off.
