I just updated my Galaxy S6 Edge to Marshmallow. I have Verizon. A majority of my contacts are now scrambled. Many contacts names switched to "Unkown, Last Name". I can assure you I have no friends named Unkown. The photos for my contacts are jumping to other contacts, phone numbers are jumping around, contact names are switched, etc. I use my google contacts as my display contacts. I also can't edit any of my contacts to fix a few important numbers in the interim. Any one have a solution to this issue?

Well at least I know it's a Marshmallow issue. Switched from iPhone and everything got super scrambled. Even brought back deleted numbers and contacts.

Welcome to Android Central! Are all of the contacts associated with Google? If so, go to the App Manager, select Contacts, and Clear Cache/Clear Data. Do the same for Contact Storage. Now open Contacts again and wait for it to resync with your Google account. Does that fix things?

If you have important contacts stored on your local Phone account, then don't do this because clearing the data from the contact storage will probably delete those contacts as well--and since they're probably not synced anywhere, you won't be able to recover them.
