I currently own 3 smartphones: Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, and the Nexus 6(just bought recently). The S5 and Note 4 have been inside Otterbox Defender cases since the day I bought them. The Nexus 6 is in a rugged SUPCASE(also since day one)

I only use two of them at any given time.(separated for work and personal uses) I've never taken any photos/videos with any of my smartphones because I usually have my compact camera(Panasonic LX7) with me most of the time. When I use my Note 4, the battery needs to be replaced at least twice a day, because I use it mostly for work. I carry two spare batteries for the Note 4 with me.

is there any point in getting the new S6(either one, regular or edge). The reason I'm asking is one of my 5 Verizon lines will become upgrade eligible next Tuesday(perfect timing to pre-order the S6) I want it(the Edge) mainly because it looks cool, but then again, what does it look like inside an Otterbox case?

    Any advice appreciated.

If you carry two spare batteries on the note 4, then you would need an external battery pack for the s6 for similar usage. I have the lx7 as well and it takes excellent pictures, especially low light. The Note 4 can't match.

The s6 does have better tech... As to whether or not it is worth it, that is up to you. Personally, if I needed to use 2 spare batteries daily, I wouldn't get the s6,as you would need to charge it frequently.

1 question: Why? Nothing against you personally, I cant seem to understand why people have more than one smartphone to begin with...but you have 3 of the top Androids that came out in 2014.

As to answer you question, I cant see why you'd need the S6 when you've got the Note 4 but thats me.

The Note 4 is mostly used for work and I actually replace the battery 3 times a day.
One of the two spare batteries is always on a separate charger just in case.

I bought the LX7 when Amazon had it on sale last Thanksgiving for $257.(should have
bought two ) I think what I really love is a smartphone with camera as capable as
the LX7. (probably won't happen for another 10 years, if ever?)

Supposedly the S6 has a great camera.... but then again....

I knew that a long time ago. I don't think I've ever kept a phone for more than 11 months.

I will gladly mail you the Note 4 free of charge, in exchange for 0.37 ounce of gold.

not sure why you would bother asking a forum if you should buy a phone that you clearly have no purpose for?? if you have to ask, you probably don't need it. if your reasoning to buy one is because it looks cool, then just buy it i guess, since theres no practical reason to do so.

It is okay guys he is just asking .. Which is allowed. Forums are for discussing .

I have an iPhone 6+, Note 4, Soon to have an S6, and soon to have a Zenfone 2. --- Now if I keep the S6 I may sell the 6+ and the Note 4 and keep the Zen / S6 combo but who knows.. may keep The Note 4 (but I will sell the 6+ or the Note 4 since I don't want two big phones) .. Some people like to try new things. No reason to bash him for it .

That also isn't the case .. as some get phones or trades off craigslist and such . Hence why I will be selling one of my "big" phones (Note 4 or 6+) when I decide what to keep (S6 or Note 4).

in my case, I'm the opposite of "Mr. Moneybags"

    in fact, I'm Mr. Cheapskates.

I only buy phones when they are $99 or cheaper(on 2-year contract). I have 5 lines on my Verizon account and only 1 line has data. I use the other 4 lines with dumbphones(two of which are non-removable factory installed phones in my cars, the other two are used by family members who don't need smartphones). This means I have one line becoming eligible for upgrades every 4 to 5 months, depending on what date the contract was originally added.

    Examples:

Verizon Galaxy Note II was $1 when it was on sale at Best Buy back in 2013.

Verizon Galaxy Note 3 was $1 when it was on sale at Best Buy in 2013.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 was $0 from Best Buy. ($49.99 minus the $50 free Best Buy gift card for registering in 2014)

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was $49.99 from Best Buy ($99.99 minus the $50 free Best Buy gift card for registering in 2014)

Did I say Verizon was cheap? I meant Best Buy was cheap. Without Best Buy, I would not have been able to upgrade to my last 4 phones by paying $49 or $99 for flagship phones and still kept my UDP intact.

Trying new things is fine. Asking whether he should buy it for no reason at all is pointless. I mean what sort of answer would you be expecting?

A fellow gadget junkie, like me!

I think you should wait. I would love to pick up an S6 but I'm going to TRY to be strong and wait to see what the Note 5 has to offer. My New Year's resolution was to limit myself to 2 phones per year.

Clearly TENYKS you love gadgets, and life is too short to deny yourself the pleasure as long as you're not going to go without essentials or not pay bills because of your purchase.

Maybe try it out and see how it feels to change things up a bit: don't stick it in a case and enjoy it "naked" (with a decent insurance plan if you're clumsy), and see if its camera is good enough to let you get away without your compact camera for everyday travels. Try a new device, and try varying your habits too. Experimentation is fun!

With respect to getting the S6 edge.......from what I've been reading, the edge is not nearly as functional as the note edge.........its almost as if it just looks cool......but I have not tried myself.
