So I have the S6 coming this Wednesday. I've never has a Samsung phone before I've been a Nexus user for the past two years. My question is about the built in messaging app on Samsung phones. How does it compare to Textra? I do a lot of group text with family using MMS with textra and it works flawlessly. How well does it work with the native Samsung app?

I know I can change it at any time but I was curious.

I have a Note 4 and I use Chomp SMS. The stock Samsung messaging app is OK but that's about it.

The Samsung stock messaging is good, but Textra will be better because it has more features and more customizable. I use Textra currently and I love it

In same boat as you textra is great but not fan of the app icon they should change it.

Started using the default messaging app but then started using Hangouts but don't like it because it lacks the feature of calling by putting the phone up to your face.

Use textra for its battery saving black ui. Stock one doesn't seem to have this function.

not sure, I use it entirely for two reasons. Black ui option, and reply from floating window without openning the app.

Can you call from the app? Is it handled like Hangouts or the default messaging app?

Yes, by tapping the # icon on the top right.

I never used hangout so not sure how it works.

BTW, color can be changed. So don't worry about my purple ui.

It's similar to Textra in that you have select a toggle instead of simply putting it up to your face to initiate the call without selecting a toggle.

right, the "direct call" of GS series. Not sure I ever used it, but its an interesting feature for sure.
