    Hey,

i have an S6 with lollipop 5.0.2. I have lockscreen on and occasionally when I unlock wake the screen up using the side lock button, i get a notification saying it is searching for GPS. I have weather widget on lock screen and home screen enabled.

Any ideas? Is this normal? I am new to Android.

Welcome to Android! Yes it is very normal. It just means you have location on and set to search by GPS, WIFI & mobile networks. You can change that in settings > location > locating method

Unfortunately yes GPS its on by default so when indoors the clock weather app checks your location when it does it's periodic update

On the S5 there was a GPS button/menu on the S6 its hidden I found it via Google settings/location and changed it to Wi-Fi and mobile networks but you can also find it settings/accounts google/location and settings/privacy and safety/location

Also I suggest you change update auto update period of weather by tapping on the weather icon on your home screen then select more/settings/auto refresh
