I'm wondering if any of you switched from iPhone to Galaxy S6 or Edge? Are you happy with your decision? Any features or functionality you are missing from iOS? After getting S6, do you wish you would have gotten iPhone 6?

I have always owned android phone, but a family member is a iPhone user and considering Galaxy S6 or S6E as next phone. Just need some input from forum members who have already switched and experienced both platforms.

I switched from the iPhone 6 plus. I like the size of the GS6 better. Also much prefer Android notification system. IPhone is slightly more fluid and battery life of 6 plus was better. Some ios apps are more polished, but apps still not optimized for the 6 plus are annoying to me. Switching music over was not so easy. I like the iPhone podcast apps better. Overall nothing is perfect.

I have an iPhone 6. I miss the fluidity and battery. Also, Google's own apps are better on iOS which is weird. But I prefer android and the GS6 has a better camera. But this is going back. The battery and stutter are too much. After having a GNex, N4, M7GPE, and OG Moto X I was hoping this is what got me back

I switched from iPhone 5S and happy so far. I would mirror what the others have said. The iOS experience is more polished and fully integrated with Apple products and services.

Lollipop apps are much nicer than KitKat and in some cases an Android app is as elegant as its iOS sibling. Depends on the effort devs put into it.

I like the Android Notification system much better. Also like the ability to customize the phone to suit my needs. For example, I can set a default web browser, SMS app, nav app, etc. I can organize my apps however I like. Useful widgets.

If Apple chose to put real effort into iOS and bring on par with these Android features I might well switch back. But ask me in a year from now.

The GS6 screen is beautiful. The battery life is meh - turning down brightness helps and it's still plenty bright. Camera is awesome.

I like being able to use a Micro USB cable and not spending $$$ for Lightning cables (Monoprice or not). I can access local files, attach them to email, etc. Samsung's embrace of Fast Charging and wireless chargers is great. I presume the next iPhone will wirelessly charge with a proprietary Apple device - sometimes Think Different isn't better.

Oh, and Google Now voice commands work better for me than Siri ever did.

Im thinking of switching back im not gonna lie I really like how the youtube app works on the GS6 how it lets you minimize the screen or look for other related videos or comments while watching the video... The widgets are pretty cool..The remote peel app is cool.. but when it comes to other apps I like to use like when it comes to spinrilla my hiphop app its got a lot of bugs that need fixing... I miss the simple iTunes experience... The battery life isn't really that great.. I miss how fluid the phone is and how well ios apps work.. but yeah mostly just how certain apps worked with my iphone. the GS6 is a real nice looking and feeling phone and everything but im really thinking of switching but it really just comes down to personal preference and I just miss how my podcast and mixtape apps music and pictures worked on the iphone

Just switched from an iPhone 6 plus to an s6 yesterday. There are things I like and dislike about both. But the screen, option to customize, and the camera of the s6 will hopefully keep me in a phone for longer than 2 months which is usually a phones shelf life with me. Also the gold color on the s6 is so sharp. Way more silver than gold to me and I love the flash.

Hi yes I switched from the iphone 5 thus us my first Android phone , and I love it , some things which I would call minor annoyed especially are occasional app freezes and crashes.and having to disable so many things when you set the phone up , but it's the freedom to do so many things I could not do with the iPhone . The people close to me we're shocked when I decided to go for the galaxy s6 as everyone else in the household have iphones due to my advice , I have no regrets. Best phone I have owned .

I really want to like iOS because I'm a Mac user which really just means I make iTunes purchases which are locked.

I bought every iPhone since the 3GS and it never last more than two months. I guess it doesn't help that iPhone's can easily be sold forget profit. I sold my 128GB 6 Plus for $950, so I banked $200+.

My issue with iOS is that it's locked down and gets boring when you can't customize it.

I can't get enough of my iPhone six plus battery. I am currently at 5 hours 29 minutes of usage with 19 hours 17 minutes standby with 46% battery left. It makes the battery life or lack thereof on the Samsung galaxy s6 even more painful

I switched from iPhone to s6. Overall not that impressed and will most likely be switching back.

Battery life *for me* has been absolutely terrible compared to my wife's iphone 6. This was most notable when I was on vacation for 2 weeks in europe. My s6 would not even last half the day while the iphone 6 would keep on trucking.

Now that I'm at home where I work at a computer for most of the day the battery life hasn't been noticeably bad but that's because its basically plugged in all day.

2nd is the app quality. Android apps are mainly terrible compared to IOS apps. They're literally FULL of ads. Pop up ads. Little mobile banner ads. Popular apps that claim to "clean" your phone like Clean Master but are nothing more than a gateway to more and more ads.

I have a rooted s6 and installed adaway to block ads but it doesn't seem to do it consistently at all.

Latest example for me is using the Strava app for when I'm biking. It's a popular exercise app that keeps track of your travels and stats and such. There's a paid and there's a free version. I only use the free version. On iOS it is pretty much perfect. On android? Every time I'm done a bike trip I try to record the captured data, it pops up a huge fullscreen ad constantly telling me that I should upgrade to premium all of the time. Absolutely irritating.

I guess by more "open" they mean app developers can cram a ton of garbage into their apps and Google won't care.

On top of apps full of ads, the app quality is also terrible. Mainstream apps like Instagram and vscocam for the photo enthusiasts produce subpar photos compared to the IOS version.

Even game emulators don't appear to even run as smoothly on the s6.

You will also notice that the 3 gb of ram does absolutely NOTHING. Apps will constantly refresh on you as you multitask. It's actually way worse than it was on my old iphone 5. I could close tapatalk while typing a forum post, return to the app and I'd be able to continue where I left off. On my s6, it would literally just refresh whatever forum post I was looking at and erase everything.

Same with google chrome. Tabs will refresh constantly despite the massive amount of ram this phone has.

Let's not even get into browser performance where I compared chrome on my s6 versus a friends iphone 5s on a site like creemoresprings.com. it utilizes some basic but modern css animations that are SO SLOW on my s6 but buttery smooth on the iphone 5s.

I can go into a LOT more but I haven't been happy with the switch at all.

The only thing this phone has going for it is the screen and camera. But I find the QHD screen is largely overkill and probably the main source of my battery problems.

I've never had to *manage* a phone so much in my life in order to get it to be actually usable over the course of the day. I find I'm constantly having to stop apps and clear the ram and do all of this nonsense I shouldn't really have to do on a phone.

^^Me too! I've had my S6 for nearly 2 months now but have been using my 6 Plus much more lately - it's a much more fluid OS (no frame-drops, lags, stutters), the fingerprint sensor is way more reliable, and, biggest for me, S6 battery life is terrible compared with the 6 Plus (which, surprisingly, only has a 315 mAh bigger battery).

It's when the phones are doing nothing (in Standby) where the 6 Plus just kills it - it can be off charger and maybe lose 1-2% all day, if that. You never have to think/worry about battery. There are no excuses with the 6 Plus - that you have to shut down a long list of Apps/System settings to get good battery life, you can't be in bad cell reception areas, that you don't know how to manage your battery, etc.

On the other hand, my S6 burns 3-4% per HOUR (sometimes more) just sitting there in idle, doing nothing and that's after monkeying with numerous changes to the way the phone came (that seems to have helped some but not others) that your average user won't undertake. I have to shut off VoLTE, shut off WiFi calling, shut off Google Now (a great feature), shut off Location Services which severely disables the phone, shut down many synching operations, turned off haptic feedback, got rid of my Weather widget, crippled Facebook, etc. And, with all that disabling of some of the best features of the S6, it still sucks down battery like mad.

I'm slowly losing my love for my S6 edge with some critical issues (battery, lag, wonky fingerprint sensor) not being resolved after 2 months and the insane price I paid for it (nearly $1000.00 for the 128GB) which makes me have big expectations like I do when I buy an expensive Apple product. If you want a price premium for your product, you have to deliver exceptional customer service. It's that simple.

Difference is that with Apple, you pay a premium, but you can count on them to issue quick updates to fix issues. I haven't seen that at all in 2 months with Samsung and Google. I am truly hoping and praying some fixes are coming soon because the S6 really would be a great phone if they can fix these key issues - all of which which seem so easily resolvable to me. I'm really pulling for Samsung here but I'm worried that between their own lack of focus on premium customer care, their strained partnership with Google and their dysfunctional relationship with the carriers, that this premium device effort by Samsung may not be a supportable business model for them, especially considering that Apple is now decimating their sales.

I switched from an iphone 5s and I couldn't be happier. Yes, I did have to tweak some things to get the excellent battery life I'm getting now (5-8 h SoT), but I was so sick of Apple controlling everything I do on my phone. I was so excited when Apple finally introduced widgets and 3rd party keyboards, but the implementation was lacking. I ended up using neither. I love that I can put whatever widget I want, wherever I want. I love that I can change the look of my phone completely without rooting/jailbreaking. Yes, some of the apps worked a bit better on iphone, but I took some time to look for apps on Android that worked well and fit my needs, and I'm quite happy with them. The fingerprint scanner works just as flawlessly for me as it did on my iphone - and that was the sole reason I switched to samsung rather than another android phone. At this point, I wouldn't go back.

That's pretty funny I am doing exact same thing. I have had every android flagship that has come out within the past 3 years. Never thought I'd go with an iPhone , but I picked up an iPhone 6 for my wife. I played around with it for a bit than went and picked myself up a 6 plus. I was shocked how much I liked it, I was one of those Apple bashers , for years, lol. Never understood the allure of the iPhone. I used it for a few months than the Galaxy s6 came out. I have never owned a Samsung device , never really cared for the ui or the cheap build. But, I purchased both edge and regular cause I couldn't decide , lol. I returned the edge after a week and a half. Thought the s6 would keep me happy, well after 2 more weeks I'm back on the 6 plus.

The Samsung is the best android I have ever used, like I stated earlier , I've had a lot of them. It's an illness , lol, I need therapy for phone purchases. Love the feel, use ability , pocketability, screen, camera, many more things. But for whatever reason I enjoy the way the iPhone runs better. The optimization of apps, the fluidity , the battery is not even in the same ballpark. Samsung put out a great device, but for me , I switched back.

I laugh at it actually , how I have always bashed the iPhone , now I use one as my daily driver. Oh well, that's the great thing about choices we have available.

Enjoy your galaxy s6 and edge they are great devices.

I have never owned an iPhone 6 and have always used Android phones. I will say though I have made 2 attempts in the past to switch to IOS. First time was when the iPhone 4 finally came to Verizon and I switched from my Droid Incredible to the iPhone. After a month I was frustrated how lock down it was compared to Android. Heck at the time I couldn't even make my own wall paper. I couldn't even add my own ring tones without having to use iTunes.

The second time I tried was when IOS 7 came out. I switched from my HTC One M7 to an iPhone 5S. I loved the finger print scanner and I was also happy that IOS finally added 3rd party keyboard and browser support. In the end though I got bored again. I hated the fact that Google apps while good where better integrated on Android, Google Now was miles ahead of Siri, by the way I hated that IOS forces me to use Bing for search results. The fake widgets in IOS 7 sucked. I hated that I couldn't set up apps how I wanted and the 720p 4" screen was way too small so I switched back to Android. I have an iPad Mini for my IOS fix if I need it but I don't really miss the iPhone. I have an S6 now and love it. Beat Android phone ever owned. Best camera I ever had. Maybe if I gave the iPhone 6 a try something would intrigue me. I do miss iMessage and like the look of the new iPhone but everything I tried to switch I just got bored so quick.

Switched from iPhone 6 and this is going back tomorrow.

2 weeks on vacation and it's easy to compare battery with my wife's iPhone 6. It's not even close.

The screen is awesome and performance is way better than the s5 but the deal breaker for me is group messaging. It's still awful on android. I don't get messages, they arrive out of order, and sending mms is painful or I don't get them at all. Google/Samsung needs something to compete with imessages and it's not hangouts.

I highly doubt any major carrier would allow another manufacturer to sell a phone with an imessage type service. Apple is pretty much the only one with enough clout to fight off carrier bloat much less anything else.

After using a 6+ for 6 months I came over to an S6. I prefer the customizations that are doable with android which is the main reason for the switch. I just like to tinker. The 6+ is a very sweet device and I've kept it. It does what it does very well and covered all my needs sans one, the ability to change it up and mix it up. Apple really lacks in that regard. Very happy with my decision after almost 2 months with the S6.
