Welcome to Android Central! It's adware or possibly malware. What is she using to send messages--the Messaging app, or is she using some web interface for messages or email?

Install a good antimalware app like Malwarebytes or Lookout and run a scan.

And what do we do if Lookout scan finds nothing? I get these pop ups all the time.

If you are using the stock messaging app, I'd suggest to go ahead and do a full factory/data reset on the device.

If it's a 3rd party messaging app, you could try wiping the app's data and cache first.

Also, delete any apps that were installed just prior to this happening before factory reset. Might save you the hassle.
