same here. No trouble with my old s3. Even with the swipe to unlock method it still unlocks. And proceeds to cause all kinds of damage opening apps and it even deleted my clock/weather widget lol. Only fix I found was to change to a different unlock method. I'm using fingerprint. It's slightly annoying but it works well.

Honestly I'm surprised we haven't heard more about this issue on this forum. It's a pretty substantial problem. Either everyone is using a secure unlock method, or it's only a problem in certain phones and not in others.
I went from a galaxy s4 without any issues to the same issues that you have. ( I have the galaxy s6 edge) I tried the to lock my with the finger print but I called the police with emergency call thing. So I don't know what to do...

This problem also existed on the S5. There is a work around that does the job efficiently of shutting the phone down when not in use and the screen comes on when not being used. I used an app called MacroDroid, free in the app store. It is a Tasker type of app. Here is what I did.

Setup up a new trigger, it will ask for a trigger and I set that to Proximity Sensor (near), Then it asks for an action when it sees the proximity sensor on and I set it to Screen Off. Then for Constraint is set that to Device Locked.

What happens then is this, the screen turns on in your pocket and since the screen is now on it sees the sensor on and it turns the screen off immediately. It does not affect the screen sensor when using the phone as it also turns the screen off. This worked effectively for me because I found the fingerprint sensor in the S5 was too flaky so I just used the swipe unlock. If the phone gets accidentally turned on when in your pocket the sensor will detect the pocket and will turn the screen off.

A week ago while mowing the yard, and using the phone to listen to music, I somehow managed to call 911 with the phone in my pocket.

I got a call back from the dispatcher asking if I needed help, he wasn't willing to come finish my yard.

This never happened with my S4.

Yep, definitely. Have had the phone for a couple of months or longer. First case was the Samsung integrated case with a flip cover on it. So when the phone is in my pocket, the cover was on the face of it. Didn't have hardly any issues. Then changed the case two weeks ago to just a clam shell type, nothing on the face of the phone. Have had repetitive issues with all kinds of apps being opened just from pocket activity. Today was the kicker. Went for a walk, came by, pulled phone out to turn off music, entered my pin - phone went into factory reset! Wiped my phone completely, had no option to stop it. Couldn't believe it, and absolutely had to have been pocket activity to get me to that screen.

Put my case with a screen cover back on after I got the phone back up and running, but yes - this is a real problem. I kept my S5 in my pocket all the time and never had an issue.

I came from a note 2 to the s6 and never once had a problem with the phone unlocking in my pocket but it keeps happening with my s6 and it's opening apps and texting and calling people. I don't want to have top set a lock code or anything of I don't have to. If there was a way to stop the phone from lighting up when I get a text I don't think it would unlock but I can't find an option to turn it off.

Hi! Me too upgraded from note 2 to s6 edge. But dis s6 edge is really annoying because of the problem which you said. When i kept d phone in my pocket,it automatically answering the calls this problem really frustrating me. I hadn't experienced dis problem in note not even for single time. And also sometime dis phone gets heated like a cooking pan.
I'm regretting for changing my lovable note 2.

no, my thigh is not pressing the home button. It usually happens if some sort of notification comes in (e.g. sms) - the screen lights up and becomes active because i have my lock-out timer set to 15 minutes. If I locked the phone every time the screen was turned off, I likely wouldn't have the issue. My last phone (HTC One) did not pocket dial once in two years - once I shut the screen off, even with it not locked, it never became active again until I pressed the on button. I could turn all notifications off, but would much prefer if notifications could still notify without making the screen live for input.

Sounds good; i'll give it a try, except set constraint to device unlocked, which I gather means it will turn the screen off only if the proximity trigger is set to near and I haven't locked my device. I believe pocket dialing to not be an issue when the device is locked.

I had the same problem with my S6 EDGE. Try settings > display > Keep screen turned off. turned it on and haven't had this problem since then
