Can someone help me to NOT HATE my Galaxy S6?
- So I "upgraded" from an iPhone 5s to a Galaxy S6 yesterday.
I was encouraged by the fact that I had to pick up a Galaxy S5 last week to test our companies app on, and thought it was a pretty nice device. The major android selling point for me was being able to stream PC games straight to my phone, as well as PS4 remote play (using XDA sideloaded app).
With the S6 being newer and more powerful than the S5, I figured it would be great. I almost picked up the iPhone 6, but buying tech which is only a couple months from being upgraded seemed like a poor decision.
But long story short, I'm incredibly disappointed in it. I put Nova Launcher on it immediately, and then imported all of my data from my iPhone 5s using Smart Switch (except apps, which I wanted to install manually).
I have 40gb of photos and videos on my iPhone 5s, and Smart Switch managed to import all of them - Except in a really strange order. Some are okay, some are not. I assume this is because the pnes which are time stamped are in the right spot, but the ones which aren't (no idea why they wouldn't be) are just scattered. This is incredibly frustrating. The gallery app (or google photos) is also laggy as hell (I'm not using Google photos cloud backup), and simply scrolling through makes the phone heat up to ridiculous levels. In normal (non gallery) use, the phone heat is fine.
Browsing on either the stock browser, or Chrome (with the trick which increases Chromes allowed ram usage to 512) is choppy and uncomfortable. I mean, I could deal with it, it just seems like a step back from my iPhone 5s.
The most annoying part is that, here in Australia, our carriers (Telstra, in particular) don't allow you to return the phone for an exchange.
I feel like I'm stuck with a really average phone with a beautiful screen and a decent camera. If anyone can help, especially with sorting the photo's out, I would be very grateful? Even if there's a way for me to copy them all to my PC, then manually put them in order myself. I'd like my videos mixed amongst my photos as well. For instance, on my recent trip to Fiji, I had one video every 20 or so photos. On my galaxy, the videos are right at the beginning of my gallery, and photos come after.
It's just frustrating.
It seems that, if you have always used iOS, you should just stick with iOS. And visa versa.
(Trust me, I'm no Apple fanboy. It's just this album problem is a bit of a deal breaker for me. I don't mind with the browser issues, I'm sure I can download something that works better than the stock / Chrome browers).06-11-2015 10:06 PMLike 0 - I'm using a gs6 too and I have an iPhone 6 as well and the there is almost no lag difference between the too for me and I have a lot apps installed on my phone as well. No tweaks or root and it runs smooth. Your description makes it seem like your phone is going through something. And yes even for me there have been times where my phone was laggy due to Google services and stuff. But after that phase passes it never comes back. I'd say give your phone a time and restart if you think it's too laggy and slow. Cuz normally, the gs6 shud actually be faster than the iPhone 6

- I would suspect that since your phone is only, or less than a day old that there is more to the story. Usually after setting up your phone things are still updating, and syncing in the background. That would explain a lot of the low performance and lag. Give it another day or two to even out.
As for your photos problem, I'd go with the previous advice and download a different gallery app and see if that helps. Are they sorted the same way when you use Google's Photos app?

- Thanks for the replies.
I have to admit, the phone definitely feels snappier today. It's a little different with iPhones, once I restored from an iTunes backup, it's always just been ready to go.
But yeah, I got the 128gb model because I like to keep my photo's on me.
I'll try a different gallery app - although Samsung Gallery and Google Photo's seem exactly the same.
I actually think that Samsung Smart Switch software might be to blame. Does anyone know of a good alternative? I bought Wondershare MobileTrans, but it keeps stalling at 35% completion. However the 35% which make it through are in much better order.06-12-2015 06:40 AMLike 0 - Yeah, unfortunately the difference in browsing and system smoothness between the iPhone and the S6 is definitely noticeable. You'll probably get used to the S6 where it won't bother you as much, but coming from iPhone, where everything is buttery smooth, is a bit of a shock at first.06-13-2015 07:38 AMLike 0

Do a Wipe Cache partition then reboot. See if that helps you with the Gallery App lag that you are facing.06-13-2015 09:12 AMLike 0

- You guys are kidding yourselves if you think that Android is as smooth as IOS. I notice it every time I switch between my S6 and iPhone six plusBeyond Fire likes this.06-13-2015 12:12 PMLike 1
- As far as browsers on Android go, Chrome is one of the worst I've used honestly. It's extremely janky, and scrolling is pretty bad as well. The only one I've found that I like is Dolphin with Jetpack. As an added plus it automatically resized videos to full screen. Was driving me crazy on the other browsers that that's not an option.PsychDoc likes this.06-13-2015 12:40 PMLike 1

- Yup, Dolphin and Opera are the only two browsers that still do text wrap. It's a horrible shortcoming of all other browsers. I'm shocked people willingly put up with having to scroll left/right as they're trying to read a web page. Interestingly, the iPhone browser also does not do text wrap. Between Dolphin and Opera I vastly prefer Dolphin which I find to be buttery smooth and fast. I also like their bookmark options and flexibility.
Sent from my Galaxy S606-13-2015 01:40 PMLike 0 - I don't believe so. You'd have to use the same mobile browser as desktop for that. I haven't checked too deeply into it though. I use Safari on my MBP. There's no way Apple would create a cross-platform mobile browser. LOL. Dolphin has a ton of add-on apps and extensions though. I'll check later and report back if I find one.
EDIT: I just checked. They have something called Dolphin Connect that will.06-13-2015 02:50 PMLike 0
